HMRC has extended its phone line availability today, which is the exact deadline day for self-assessment applications.
Every January HMRC sets this deadline, which is especially important for those who are self-employed or those receiving extra income on the side.

Anyone who doesn’t file in their form who requires one risks facing an immediate £100 fine which will increase as time continues to go by.
But if you haven’t filed a self-assessment tax return and don’t know where to start, you only have from 9am to 4pm.
HMRC‘s helplines are designed to help people to fill out forms, including their self-assessment tax returns.
However, they are usually only open on weekdays. Thankfully HMRC has scaled up Saturday support for those leaving it to the last minute after some 1.1million people missed the cut-off a year ago.
Another way to save money and avoid a fine is to try your luck with HMRC’s AI assistant and webchat support.
HMRC continued: “Our digital assistant is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
“If it cannot help, webchat support will be available from 8am to 4pm on Saturday 31 January.”
According to HMRC, more than 3.3 million people are yet to file their self-assessment form despite the deadline being so near.
