THIS is the heartwarming moment a cabbie dad got the news his daughter just got engaged – with a passenger in his car.
Ashley Hodgson, 32, FaceTimed her dad to show off the ring, not realising he had a passenger inside his cab.
Ashley’s partner of four years, Danny Templeman, 31, popped the question on March 13, whilst on a ski trip in Stuben, Austria.
Her dad Davie Hodgson, 59, knew that the proposal was in motion after Danny asked his permission a month prior, but had no idea when it might happen.
And both parties were left in fits of giggles when Ashley called Davie to share the news – with his passenger unexpectedly immersed in the family moment.
Ashley, from Glasgow, Scotland, said: “I had no idea he would be in the taxi.
“But his passenger, Angie, was so thrilled for us.
“I found it hilarious that she was part of our moment.”
Ashley and Danny met online in 2022 and had been dating ever since, until he proposed on a ski trip earlier this month.
He had asked Davie’s permission about a month in advance and planned to propose on top of a mountain.
However, Ashley’s limited skiing ability meant they couldn’t quite reach the peak, so Danny popped the question on their hotel balcony instead.
Ashley said: “Danny had planned to propose on the top of the mountain, but we ran into so many problems on the mountain because I can’t ski very well, so thought it wasn’t the right time after that.
“He panicked and ended up doing it back on the balcony of our hotel room, which ended up perfect because we got to overlook the mountains.”
Ashley, who owns her own aesthetics clinic, went viral on TikTok after sharing the sweet exchange with her dad – with the video racking up almost 500,000 views.
One person gushed: “This is lovely! The passenger being just as thrilled is so nice.”
A second wrote: “This is just the best video, the lady’s face when she saw the cracker of a ring. You know she went home and told everyone about it! Congratulations to you both!”
A third added: “This is so cute! The passenger was more thrilled than some family members when we told them when we got engaged.”
A fourth chimed in: “If I got to share such a happy moment with a stranger it would genuinely make my day.”
“Stop it now I absolutely love this bless her”, said a fifth.
Meanwhile, a sixth wrote: “She was so thrilled!!! I love how kind people can be!! Congratulations.”
