A MAJOR discount retailer is closing one of its stores as part of a series of 63 closures across the country.
The high-street chain is closing the branch on December 6 with a major closing-down sale starting this week.
Worthing Poundland will close following a bulk of other store closures across the UK.
November saw the closure of branches in Hailsham, Loughborough and Peckham.
Another shop closed its doors in Dalston, East London today.
Ahead of the final day, customers in Worthing, West Sussex, will benefit from a 40 per cent closing down sale.
The price slash will be across all stock including, groceries, homeware, health and beauty products.
Prices will remain low until the products sell-out, good news for those looking out for stocking stuffers.
Darren MacDonald, Poundland’s UK regional manager, said: “We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store, but before we close our doors for a final time, we’re determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers.
“These special reductions, on top of the value we offer day-in-day-out across our wider network, will help us leave locations like Worthing with pride.
“And when our doors close, we’ll look forward to welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we’ll continue to operate across the UK.”
This comes amidst a shut down of more than 60 Poundland shops across the country which was announced in June.
The chain will cut down from 800 shops to between 650 and 700 following a major restructuring.
The nationwide roll back follows the sale of Poundland from Pepco Group to Peach Bidco, for just £1.
Peach Bidco is a subsidiary of private equity firm Gordon Brothers and the firm plans to invest £90 million in the retailer.
The closure follows the news that six Poundland stores previously earmarked to shut will no longer be closing.
The bargain retail chain previously said it will need to close 68 stores before the end of 2025 as part of a significant turnaround plan.
Poundland stores where sales have been launched:
Thurmaston Shopping Park, Leicester – November 17
Hornchurch High Street, Hornchurch – November 21
Larne Link Road, Ballymena – December 13
Oldham High Street, Oldham – December 13
Wellingborough Road, Weston Favell – December 19
Magowan West, Portadown – December 31
Majestic Way, Mitcham – January 14
But the high street giant has now confirmed that stores in Perry Barr, Dundee, Livingston, Musselburgh, Porthcawl and Andover will not close.
Other changes at Poundland
Shoppers can no longer buy products from the Poundland website and its loyalty scheme, Poundland Perks, has been axed.
Loyalty scheme customers signed up to the Poundland Perks app have until January 15, 2026, to use their reward vouchers.
The chain will also close its frozen and digital distribution centre in Darton, South Yorkshire, later this year.
