A HIGH street bakery chain that’s been dubbed better than Greggs has revealed plans to open more sites across the UK.
Cornish Bakery will open several stores this autumn and is in the advanced stages of negotiation to open more five more stores in 2026.
The chain already has up to 68 stores across the UK, with the majority of its branches in the South West of England.
Plans to expand its estate follow the success of openings in Hereford and Woodbridge, according to The Retail Bulletin.
The brand, which has been on the high street since 1994, delivered a record breaking summer, with like-for-like sales up 8% in August.
Cornish Bakery was also boosted by punters heading out for a coffee and treat over last month’s bank holiday.
Matt Finch, managing director, said: “Our founder, Steve Grocutt, has long said that ‘Bakery is the new coffee shop,’ and we’re seeing that trend play out.
“The premium bakery segment is growing faster than traditional coffee shops, and customers are seeking fresher, higher-quality food that’s baked and served on-site, not wrapped in plastic. That’s where we win.”
The Sun has contacted the Cornish Bakery chain for comment.
It comes as the posh bakery chain has been hailed better than Greggs by some customers.
One punter said the chain was ” better than Greggs any day,” prasing the chains veggie sausage rolls.
While another added: “A welcome change from Greggs.”
Punters heading to one of its branches can expect to pay £4 for its classic Cornish Pastry.
Meanhwile its Apple, Rhubarb & Custard pastries cost £3.85.
There is also a selection of coffees and other sweet and savoury bakes to choose from.
It is slightly more pricey than Greggs which charges around £2 for its bakes.

And Cornish Bakery is not the only coffee chain with plans to grow its estate.
