A MEMORIAL to Hairy Biker Dave Myers is to be built after his widow fought opposition from the local church.
Liliana Myers, 58, wanted a flat grave monument with a headstone and full kerb for her TV chef husband, who died aged 66 in February 2024.
But plans were 2ft wider than permitted — and the use of mid grey and lavender blue polished granite was also against regulations.
The Diocesan Advisory Committee had claimed it would not be “in keeping with the character” of the yard and other memorials at All Saints Church, Rangemore, East Staffs.
But Liliana won permission for her plans – as long as the granite isn’t polished – at the Consistory Court of the Diocese of Lichfield.
No objections were made by the public and the application was supported by the parish ministry team, Parochial Church Council and Reverend Terry Williams.
Dr Anthony Verduyn, chancellor of the Diocese of Lichfield, described Dave as “a larger than life figure in more ways than one” in his judgement.
He highlighted the screen stalwart educating the public on food, cooking and motoring – as well as charity work which continues through fundraising motorbike convoys.
Dr Verduyn ruled: “Consequently, I will grant the Faculty as sought, save that the granite will not be permitted to be polished.
“I do not doubt that the monument will be much visited and sufficiently conspicuous to be found, without overwhelming other memorials or the listed features of the church and churchyard.”
