I have never quite understood the elite’s obsession with Greta Thunberg.
She rose to prominence in 2018, when she was 15 years old, because she refused to go to school because she was, according to her, terrified that climate change would kill us all. Given that she was simply repeating what literally every leftist activist was saying at the time, she was about as unique as a paperclip at a paperclip factory. The only difference between Greta and every other indoctrinated child was that she had good PR management.
“How dare you” absolutely destroyed me. I think it’s the 3 most powerful words used in honest, passionate anger. Greta is a fucking monolith. pic.twitter.com/YA2Sf1gQyD

Whatever the reason, Greta became not just a star but an acknowledged expert on climate matters. She was feted by intellectuals around the world, taken seriously enough that she outshone all the politicians at the UN climate conference, and became an international hero for millions around the world.
All because she acted the role of a spoiled brat. The more hysterical Greta became, the more beloved she became.
Greta has moved on to bigger and better things since the climate change hysteria seems to be petering out. Perhaps it is as simple as her deadline for the expiration of the human race has passed–just as comet Hale-Bopp didn’t wipe out humanity, the climate puttered along without destroying Western civilization.
Greta went from skipping school so she could scream ‘How dare you’ to calling for jihad.

So now Greta is a Gaza activist, repeating the “genocide” blood libel and making a show of trying to break the “blockade” of Gaza by the mean, nasty Jews. She is doing so in a relatively small sailboat, so it’s hard to see how much aid she can bring along, especially since the boat is filled with fellow activists, all on a well-publicized journey broadcast in full HD to the world.
Greta Thunberg’s so-called “freedom flotilla” encapsulates the delusion and hypocrisy surrounding the Israel-Gaza war.
This isn’t a humanitarian mission—it’s a Mediterranean leisure cruise. Participants are smiling, swimming, and filming TikTok videos. This is self-serving… pic.twitter.com/eUzhsXW54r

I have to admit that the journey looks like fun, as long as you don’t include having to endure the company of the self-satisfied twits with whom you would be making the journey. Call it the Hamas/Just Stop Oil cruise, brought to you courtesy of Starlink. Elon Musk must be laughing.

Greta, being obsessed with following the Next Big (Left-wing) Thing, is diverting her sailboat to transport Libyan refugees from the coast of North Africa to some place in Europe. Perhaps she can break the Italian blockade of refugees in addition to Israel’s blockade of weapons to Gaza.
It would be a two-fer.

I presume that, once Greta and company drop the refugees off and restock their gourmet food supplies, they will continue along their journey to provide humanitarian relief to Hamas terrorists.
Maybe she and her companions can do a Hanoi Jane photoshoot, posing next to a Hamas rocket before it gets fired into Israel. It would be her contribution to globalizing the Intifada.

It is neither particularly interesting nor surprising that Greta is doing all this. Left-wing activism is her thing, and choosing whatever cause is the Next Big Thing is her shtick.
What is interesting to me is that so many presumably intelligent adults have latched onto Greta as a moral leader. There is something truly bizarre about the entire elite class valorizing the tantrums of an autistic young woman. She has become a symbol of moral clarity and goodness–a leader of a movement whom they view as a modern-day Joan of Arc.
Revolutionary movements latch onto children as symbols of innocence, and for some reason, believe that they are a moral force for good. It’s not so much that the opposite is true, but rather that children’s “moral clarity” is grounded in a failure to grasp the moral complexity of the world and the necessary trade-offs that dealing with problems in the real world requires.
Is it true that the world would be a better place if there were no war in Gaza? Obviously, but also trivially, true as far as it goes. No doubt, innocents are dying, and that is a tragedy. That wars are moral obscenities tells you nothing about whether they are also necessary to achieve other moral goals.
Hamas must be destroyed, and war is how you destroy it. Just as dropping the atomic bombs on Japan was required to end World War II. The alternative was worse.
The same could be said about the use of oil and coal, or mining, or any of the other messy things necessary to maintain civilization. If there were perpetual motion machines spewing out free and clean power, then we wouldn’t need to pump oil. If refined minerals magically appeared, then mining wouldn’t be necessary. If manna dropped from heaven, we would not need to farm and ranch.
The liberal valorization of child activists is another manifestation of the leftist belief that the only obstacle to achieving paradise on earth is bad people who want bad things for bad reasons. They want a world that only a child would believe could be.
They believe in the possibility of utopias, forgetting that “utopia” means “no place” in Greek. Utopias cannot be, and only children–or mental children, should aspire to creating what cannot be. The results are always disastrous.
