Gosh Darn, ICE – What for You Want to Deport These Nice Peoples – HotAir

There doesn’t seem to be any question that the concept of an 80/20 issue has failed to penetrate at even the most basic level in either elected Democrat officials’ brains or the bleeding heart liberal media that encourages and supports them.

The worst offenders, naturally, are in those deep blue bastions where such expressions of sympathy and commiseration are actively encouraged, and where ‘viva la ICE resistance’ is aided and abetted by all manner of local whackdoodles, elected, or otherwise.

One such example popped up in our own David’s hometown rag today. The tonedeafness is just gross when one considers the ghastly tragedy the report is describing and the unholy and unnecessary circumstances for two families’ devastating losses.

The only thing the hometown Minnesota Star Tribune wants you to know is that the fascist Nazis at ICE wantWANT – to deport a WISCONSIN driver. That’s the very first part of their lead sentence. Who, oh, by the way, drove drunk and killed two teenagers.

You can’t hate these people enough.

Well. ICE  has made a habit of disappearing Maryland men, Jamaica mon, and now…gosh, why not?

Wisconsin *check notes* woman who only wanted to get to her Wisconsin ho…hang on a minute.

How odd none of this is anywhere in the Xweet or the first part of the story.

ICE has requested that the Dane County Sheriff turn this illegal Honduran over to them if there is bail set and posted. The sheriff is all up on his sanctuary city high horse, huffing and puffing that he doesn’t want her deported, presuming those are ICE’s intentions. He wants this woman to face a trial and jail time.

An undocumented immigrant accused of causing the death of two teens in a drunk driving incident is now at the center of a dispute between federal immigration authorities and Dane County officials over the county’s “sanctuary” policies.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is accusing Dane County of undermining public safety by declining to transfer the defendant, 30-year-old Noelia Saray Martinez-Avila, into its custody if she were to post bond.

Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett said his concern is that ICE may try to deport Martinez-Avila before she faces trial.

“Deporting someone before they face trial allows them to evade that accountability — it’s essentially a ‘get out of jail free’ card,” Barrett said in an email.

Which is all well and good and makes perfect sense right up to the point where you find out this drunken illegal murderer is a repeat offender already. Martinez-Avila wasn’t supposed to be drunk, and wasn’t supposed to be in a vehicle to begin with, thanks to the drunk monitor the state placed there after her previous conviction.

So why wouldn’t the immigration authorities be concerned that the stellar law enforcement and civil authorities in Wisconsin would screw it up again?

…Hallie Helgeson, 18, of Montevideo, was pronounced dead at the scene of the head-on collision on Interstate 39/90/94 near DeForest, Wisconsin. Helgeson was a 2025 graduate of Montevideo High School.

Brady Heiling, 19, of Clara City, was treated for several days at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison. His family announced Friday in a CaringBridge post that he had died of his injuries, as previously reported by the West Central Tribune. Heiling was a 2024 graduate of MACCRAY High School in Clara City.

In a written statement issued Sunday, July 27, Assistant Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin wrote, “Hallie Helgeson and Brady Heiling had their whole lives ahead of them — and they would still be alive today if it weren’t for Noelia Saray Martinez-Avila — a criminal illegal alien from Honduras. Martinez-Avila recklessly drove the wrong way on a highway while intoxicated and killed these two teens.”

McLaughlin went on to state that ICE was seeking to “remove this public safety threat from the U.S.” The statement called Dane County “a sanctuary jurisdiction” with a history of not honoring ICE arrest detainers.

Authorities there have charged Martinez-Avila, 30, of Portage, Wisconsin, with two counts of felony vehicular homicide and impaired driving. Charges allege that Martinez was driving the wrong way on the interstate in a Chevrolet Suburban and was impaired when her vehicle struck a Volkswagen Tiguan, driven by Heiling with Helgeson as his passenger.

According to reporting by the Wisconsin State Journal, Martinez-Avila has a 2020 conviction for drunken driving and was supposed to have a device installed in her vehicle to prevent it from starting if the driver had been drinking. She did not have that device installed when the crash occurred and reportedly had a blood alcohol level of 0.28%, more than three times the legal limit.

Yet, there she was, driving the wrong way down an interstate in a SUBURBAN. And she hit these poor kids, in that itty bitty VW, head-on.

The woman who should never have been in the country to begin with.

No one’s falling for the woke sanctuary sheriff’s ‘justice in the jail’ act. Not a solitary soul.

But the Star Tribune is weeping crocodile tears over ‘Wisconsin woman‘ instead of the precious Minnesota young lives lost on that interstate.

The same way scummy Maryland Man Senator and Margarita aficionado Chris Van Hollen could slump in protest in front of an ICE office door in Baltimore today.

WAAH! LEMME IN!

But he couldn’t vote for the Laken Riley Act.

Van Hollen could travel to El Salvador for margaritas with a wife-beating, human trafficking MS-13 member.

But he never could meet with a grieving Maryland mother.

Patty Morin, the mother of Rachel Morin who was killed by an undocumented El Salvadoran migrant in 2023, told Newsweek in emailed remarks on Sunday that Senator Chris Van Hollen, a Maryland Democrat, did not contact her family in the wake of her daughter’s violent murder.

When reached for comment, Van Hollen’s office referred Newsweek to comments the senator made in TV news interviews on Sunday morning.

“What happened to the Morin family was awful and unacceptable. I cannot imagine losing a child like they lost Rachel, and I said at the time that my heart goes out to the Morin family,” the senator told Fox News Sunday.

Guess he’s been busy looking after his illegal constituents.

Just like the Minnesota paper, describing what they think is the outrage of the horrific Wisconsin crash. Advocating for the murderer.

Plenty of people are way too familiar with the Dane County Sheriff’s track record re: ICE detainers. He doesn’t ‘do’ them.

Advocating for illegals over citizens.

Shame about those kids, though.

It’s almost as if it were their fault they were in her way.
