‘Good timing, admin’ – Chelsea’s awkward post instantly backfires during England’s clash against Japan

CHELSEA were left embarrassed by a mistimed social media post promoting Cole Palmer during England’s clash against Japan.

The Blues tweeted out a picture of the Three Lions star’s shirt just moments after he contributed to them conceding at Wembley.

Palmer, 23, gave the ball away in the middle of the pitch as Thomas Tuchel‘s side toiled for an opener.

Within seconds it was 1-0 to the visitors as Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma finished off a slick counter.

Palmer had the ball nicked off him by Mitoma, who sprinted forward and sent Ayase Ueda through.

Ueda then found Mitoma free at the back post to score a tap-in past Jordan Pickford and Palmer’s error was ruthlessly punished.

In a presumably scheduled post by Chelsea at 8.10pm, 25 minutes into game and just two after Mitoma’s goal, the club put up a snap of Palmer’s jersey hanging in the changing room.

Showing the No7, Chelsea simply put up a lion and England flag emoji with the photo.

But fans couldn’t get over the timing with one saying: “Probably a bad time to post this.”

Another added: “Good timing admin”.

Palmer got the nod in a rejigged frontline missing Harry Kane through injury.

He started along with Morgan Rogers and Phil Foden in a fluid attack lacking a natural striker.

Anthony Gordon was picked on the left with Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke out after returning to Arsenal earlier in the week.

Palmer assisted for Ben White‘s goal against Uruguay on Friday having come off the bench in an even more patchwork XI named.

That came from a late corner but England could not hang on for a win.
