Gogglebox stars scream ‘I’d rather die’ as they watch very gruesome genital surgery

GOGGLEBOX stars and viewers were left screaming in horror as they watched gruesome genital surgery.

The TV watchers were faced with an episode of Alice Roberts’ Our Hospital Through Time and how surgeons in the 17th century dealt with bladder stones.

An expert told how stones form in the urine when not enough water is consumed. He showed a selection of real-life examples, some of which were very large.

There was then a demonstration of old surgical techniques on a dummy and the brutal nature of it made the Gogglebox stars, particularly the men, wince.

Show star Giles said to his wife: “I think I’d rather call it a day, Nutty, wouldn’t you?”

Alice then inserted a metal hook into the urethra and wiggled it around until it made its way into the bladder where surgeons would listen out for contact with a stone.

One viewer at home wrote on X: “Nation has a collective grab of its privates.”

Another said: “Every male in the same boat after watching #gogglebox. Ouch.”

A third posted: “If that wasn’t a great advert for drinking more water, I don’t know what is.”

A fourth said: “I think I’d rather prefer to keep my bladder stones where they are.”

They then did a demonstration on a female body which was no less stomach-churning.

Show host Alice Roberts, 52, is an anatomist, osteoarchaeologist, physical anthropologist, palaeopathologist, author and TV presenter.

She wrote and presented a 2007 BBC Two series on anatomy and health entitled Dr Alice Roberts: Don’t Die Young and has presented many documentaries for the channel.

Other programmes include The Celts: Blood, Iron and Sacrifice, King Arthur‘s Britain: The Truth Unearthed and The Lost Scrolls of Pompeii: New Revelations on Channel 5.
