This is absolutely crazy and yet it appears it’s going to happen because the ideologues in Germany can’t admit that trans women aren’t women.
The story involves a guy named Sven Liebich who appears to have a long history with a genuine neo-Nazi group called Blood and Honour. In 2023, Liebich was convicted for inciting hatred and defamation and sentenced to 18 months in prison, but in January of this year, he self-identified as trans.
In an unusual twist to his case, Liebich has legally changed gender and now lives under the name Marla-Svenja.
According to Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, a newspaper in Saxony, Liebich’s appearance has not changed since the gender shift, other than a slight increase in beard length.
In a brief statement to the newspaper, Liebich said: “I am afraid of discrimination.”
It turns out this is easy to do now in Germany thanks to a new law which applies to children as young as 14. Critics warned when this law was passed that it was open to abuse. Supporters brushed off those concerns.

German liberals are just as smart as the US kind. The possibility of someone using these laws to take advantage of women just never seems to occur (or matter) to them. So here we are now and this guy with a mustache is now headed to a women’s prison. And if you see a problem with that, you’re a transphobe.

Liebich took advantage of this new law one month after it took effect. It’s pretty obvious this is an attempt to game the system, but it looks like there are no safeguards here. If he says he’s a woman, the state has to treat him like one.

German prison officials have said the decision to incarcerate him at a women’s prison was based on his registered gender, not his biological sex.
However, Dennis Cernota, a senior prosecutor in Saxony, said that Liebich would be interviewed upon arrival to check whether it was appropriate for him to be placed among female prisoners. If it is decided that Liebich poses a threat to other inmates, or to law and order inside the prison, he may be transferred, Mr Cernota added.
