GARETH SOUTHGATE has revealed that his England squad were so obsessed with The Traitors that they ended up playing their own version of the game at the 2022 World Cup.
And singer Robbie Williams unexpectedly joined in when he was invited to sing for the players at their training base in Qatar.
The Celebrity Traitors final is set to be broadcast tonight, with traitors Alan Carr and Cat Burns still looking to outfox Joe Marler, Nick Mohammed and David Olusoga.
And England players were fixated on the TV series when they jetted off to Qatar to compete at the World Cup in 2022.
The Three Lions were denied the chance to get their hands on the coveted trophy for the first time since 1966 after suffering a quarter-final defeat to France.
But, before being sent packing from the tournament, Southgate has admitted that spirits were high in the camp as squad members kept themselves occupied by playing a card version of The Traitors.
The tactician, speaking on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, has confirmed that one of the nights involved Williams gatecrashing and getting involved in the fun.
After revealing that the 2022 World Cup squad played their own form of The Traitors behind the scenes, Southgate said: “It was the card version, so it was Wolves & Villages, a bit of a different theme, but same game basically. The players loved it, absolutely loved it.
“Conor Coady was the sort of narrator, so he brought it to the group. And when we were in Qatar for the World Cup, I’d go to bed at, like, fairly early. Because I’m finished.

“They’re all playing this game around the poolside, and you’d hear these werewolf noises coming across in the middle of the night.
“So yeah, they absolutely loved it. They got Robbie Williams playing it one night. He came in to sing for us and he joined in.”
Southgate resigned as England boss a matter of days after losing the Euro 2024 final against Spain.
He admitted earlier this week that he knew he needed to step aside after fans hurled beer at him following a group stage stalemate with Slovenia earlier in the tournament.
Southgate has been a technical observer for Uefa following his Three Lions exit and has also been heavily linked with the Manchester United job.
