THE NHS has been accused of promoting harmful transgender ideology through its forms for newborn babies.
Midwives at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust have to submit the electronic forms as part of a software upgrade.
It asks healthcare staff to log newborns’ legal sex, their sex assigned at birth and their gender identity alongside birth time and date.
The form also features a drop-down menu allowing staff to select the baby’s sexual orientation.
These forms are usually completed a few hours after birth.
The decision has left midwives “worried” and “afraid” in case they are labelled as bigots.

Fiona McAnena, from the campaign group Sex Matters, said: “Trusts can and do customise this software, they could easily remove anything that might get in the way of accurate information and good healthcare. This is an example of how harmful transgender ideology can be.
“The concept of babies having a gender identity is farcical, but sex is essential medical information.
“Trusts have chosen to include ludicrous software elements, such as babies’ gender identity and pronouns.”
An unnamed midwife from Torbay said: “These are not mandatory fields. But this is the backbone of documentation that will follow babies for life.
It’s proof the baby exists and is needed to get a birth certificate. The fact that it’s asking for assigned sex at birth is worrying.”
