The company has put the price up £40 to £129 — a hike of 45 per cent — sparking accusations of profiteering.

Some owners say they are choosing to leave their mutts at home rather than pay the extra.

One posted on Facebook: “For a weekend, it’s cheaper to kennel the dog.

“It’s a shame as we’ve enjoyed taking them.”

Another wrote: “It’s a lot of money on top of however much you’re already paying.

And a third moaned: “I was pretty miffed.”

Center Parcs, which has five holiday villages in England, offers dog-friendly lodges with canine baths, vertical door handles and tether rings on the patio.

Only two pooches are allowed and, before the fee rise, it cost £89 for one dog and £109 for two.

The new £129 levy also applies to two dogs.

Center Parcs, which charges up to £1,400 for a four-night school holiday break for a family of four, said: “We’ve updated our pricing structure for dogs to make it transparent and straightforward.”
