Friday’s Final Word – HotAir

Everybody’s closing tabbies for the weekend

Among those who have seen the ad, 23% believe it promotes white supremacy and 70% think it’s a normal ad.

Ed: In other words, it’s pretty much an 80/20 issue, and the freaks in the Protection Racket Media and Democrat Party (huge overlap, of course) are on the wrong side of it. Again. By the way, “government employees” pretty much equate to ‘progressive Democrats’ these days too. That’s why draining the swamp is such a high priority.

Hollywood in Toto: Perception is often reality. That’s why we’re about to see a lot of a certain American Eagle jeans model.

Sydney Sweeney rose to fame thanks to her work in “The White Lotus,” “Euphoria” and “Anyone But You” with Glen Powell.

Now, with a certain jeans commercial lighting up social media, she’s about to be, well, everywhere. Here’s a look at her upcoming film releases. Two hit select theaters Aug. 22 alone.

Ed: MSNBC hardest hit. Success is always the best revenge.

===

Ed: Congratulations to Staff Sergeant Sweeney on his recent promotion. Looks like the Sweeneys all know promotions pretty well! Stay strong for each other, and thank you for your service.

Jerusalem Post: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is looking into filing a lawsuit against The New York Times for defamation over its reporting on Gaza starvation, he told Fox News on Thursday.

“[The] NYT should be sued,” Netanyahu told Fox News’ Bill Hemmer during an interview. “I’m actually looking at whether a country can sue the NYT, and I’m looking into it right now, because I think it’s such a …it’s such a clear defamation.

Ed: I’d be interested to see how such a lawsuit might work. I’d include the NYT’s regurgitation of the Al-Ahli Hospital hoax in such a lawsuit, in Netanyahu’s position; they took a week and never really did fully retract it, even though the Hamas propaganda was obviously false the moment the sun rose that morning.

Ed: Good on Mike Huckabee for getting this exactly correct. The West is governed by moral idiots at the moment.

Mark Halperin, via RCP: MARK HALPERIN: Glenn, Glenn, do you know the moment where Joe Biden spoke to a dead Congresswoman at a public event? Are you familiar with that moment? Yes, yes, yes.

Okay. What kind of sourcing did you need to say Joe Biden was suffering cognitive decline? Did you see him trailing off regularly? What kind of sourcing was needed?

GLENN KESSLER: I, you know, I can’t get too deep in the weeds of what happened at my former newsroom.

MARK HALPERIN: You weren’t in all the meetings, but you read the coverage. You read the coverage.

Ed: RCP has the video teed up on this exchange, but I just have no interest in watching it. I’m fine with the transcript. I’ve had my share of MSM types defending the micro as a distraction from the macro, and it sounds as though Halperin feels the same way. This is why the entire fact-check project was and still is corrupt; it turned into a cover for the newsroom narratives being amplified.

allegedly extorting $50,000 from the owner of a national cannabis retailer wanting to do business in Boston.Sheriff Tompkins kicked ICE out of his jails in 2019.

Ed: Looks like the federal government is taking a very close look at those who work to impede and obstruct federal law enforcement, as they should. Not all of them will be corrupt, of course, but those who are may want to think twice about provoking investigators into taking close looks at your operations.

WSJ: Seven months would pass before Washington and Berlin were ready to move on a deal modeled on that first proposal by Rae, but just as soon as they were, it was too late. On Feb. 16, 2024, Russian state media announced that Navalny had died at the notorious “Polar Wolf” prison at the age of 47. Authorities at the gates told his mother the cause was “sudden death syndrome.”

To this day, a debate continues over whether the U.S. missed a chance to save Navalny, or whether back-channel efforts to free him inadvertently precipitated his demise. One camp believes he could have been exchanged if the Biden administration had moved faster, before he was sent to the harsh arctic prison in Dec. 2023. They place particular blame on Jake Sullivan, Joe Biden’s national security adviser, who was simultaneously assembling a complex, multinational agreement to save Navalny and jailed Americans and juggling an unmanageable set of geopolitical threats, including wars in Ukraine and Gaza.

The aging president, working limited hours and occasionally struggling to remember where negotiations stood, wasn’t pressing enough for a deal, these people contend.

Ed: It’s fair to wonder whether Putin would have ever released Navalny, given the personal enmity he felt for his biggest political rival. But what’s very obvious is that Joe Biden was too incapacitated to perform the functions of his job, and that incapacitation may have cost Navalny his life. The people who covered this up, even as Biden ran for another term of office, should be prosecuted for it. That includes Jake Sullivan.

Mark JudgeConservatives have been complaining about Hollywood for decades, yet the right has struggled, through lack of will or lack of money, to make movies promoting freedom and revealing the evils of socialism. The answer? Hold an anti-Communist film festival.

This fundraiser is to rent a theater for a week in the fall of 2026 and provide licensing fees for the movies screened.

Ed: This is a great idea! The link goes to a crowdfunding page. I’d include Bill Whittle’s documentary on the Soviet Union’s rise, which is amazing and sobering.

NewsmaxDefiant House members remaining absent from the Texas Legislature stand to be fined nearly $400,000, according to the state chamber’s rules.

The financial penalties could surpass $3.2 million if the lawmakers stay away during potential successive legislative sessions this year, Politico reported.

The Texas House in 2023 approved new punishments for quorum-breaking, include a $500 fine for each day a member is gone, The Texas Tribune reported at the time. The punishment is aimed at members who go “absent without leave for the purpose of impeding the action of the House.”

Ed: That’s why Beto O’Rourke and George Soros are raising funds for the fleebaggers. That in itself may be a crime, by the way, thanks to other statutes passed after their 2021 fleebagging. Ken Paxton announced this week that he’s opening an investigation into O’Rourke’s org.

Nate Crain via DMN: At the heart of the Democrats’ complaint is that among the 18 items Abbott has asked the Legislature to tackle is a mid-decade redistricting. They have called the new map “racist,” but the evidence to the contrary is overwhelming.

The map actually increases Hispanic-majority seats in Texas from seven to eight. According to published reports, in three of the five new Republican-leaning districts proposed, the seats would add more Hispanic voters.

Hispanics are now the largest segment of our state’s population, and this new map will ensure they get the chance to pick the representatives in Congress who represent their values. That is not “racist.” It is just and fair. The only reason Democrats are concerned about these districts is that they have lost the ability to appeal to this segment of Texans.

Ed: I don’t think they’re impressing other Texans either.

Ed: This is one of the dumbest exchanges I’ve ever seen in politics, and Neil deGrasse Tyson’s part isn’t all that much smarter. Why specify Western colonialism? Should we discuss the displacements and genocides of the Arab colonialism that started in the 7th century and captured Asia Minor, North Africa, and Spain? How about the Turks’ colonizing activities that started in central Asia and progressed to Europe? Genghis Khan and Attilla the Hun come to mind too. At any rate, if we encounter little green men on the Moon or Mars, we’ll be sure to abide by the Prime Directive, or something, space cadets.

===

Ed: This is almost as good as another Sydney Sweeney video.
