1. Can I let other people use my account to make comments?

No. Please keep your log in details (username and password) to yourself and do not let others use your account.

2. Why is there a 1,000 word limit for comments under articles?

We have a word limit because comments should be to the point.

3. Does Daily Mail have any guidelines on how to write comments?

Yes. Please see our House Rules.

4. Am I legally responsible for what I write?

Yes. Please see our Terms and House Rules for guidance of what is acceptable.

5. Why are comments not allowed under some articles?

It is entirely reasonable for us to reserve these rights to prevent the publication of illegal or offensive material on Daily Mail. Please be assured that such actions would only be taken when necessary

6. My comment has not appeared. Why?

Your comment might be pending moderation (if the article has pre-moderated comments) or it may have been flagged as inappropriate. Please refer to our Terms and House Rules.

7. My comment has been removed. Why?

We have a discretion to remove comments (please see our Terms). Your comment may have been removed because it did not comply with our Terms and/or House Rules or it was removed for legal reasons or following a complaint.

8. Are my comments checked before they go online?

Depending on the article, comments may be reviewed before being posted

9. Why do I need to register to make a comment?

Registration helps us ensure that comments are published more efficiently. By registering, you also agree to our Terms and House Rules

10. What should I do if I see something which does not comply with the Daily Mail House Rules or Terms?

Click on the flag button in the top right corner of the comment. Complete the form. Please report serious issues rather than disagreements

11. What will you do with my personal information such as my email address? Will you share it with other companies?

We do not share your personal information with any external companies unless you give us permission or it’s outlined in our Privacy Policy. We take every precaution to protect your data. When registering, please review the information and tick boxes carefully. You can choose whether to receive communication from us or our group companies. If you change your mind, you can email registration@dailymailonline.co.uk to update your preferences. Note that your comments, including your username and town, will be publicly visible on the internet

12. Will you use my details to send me marketing material?

If you have agreed, we and our group companies may send you offers or promotions from time to time.

You can elect not to receive such marketing material when registering. If you change your mind, you can email us at registration@dailymailonline.co.uk and change your preference.

13. How can I remove my own comment?

If you want to remove your own comment, place your cursor over the top right corner of the comment box. A small trash can icon will appear which is the Delete button. Clicking on it will delete your comment.

14. I can’t log in – what should I do?

  • Clear your browser cache and try again.
  • Disable any ad blockers, as they can interfere with the comments section.

Be sure to check your spam or filtered folders for the reset email. Use the link quickly, as it will expire shortly after it’s sent.

15. How do I change my username or email address?

To change your username:

Log in and click ‘My Profile’ at the top right of the page.

Click ‘Edit my profile & preferences’ next to your profile picture.

Update your username and save the changes.

To change your email address:

Follow the same steps above and update your email address in the preferences section.

Note: These changes are best made using a desktop browser.

16. Why am I receiving emails when someone replies to my comment?

This feature notifies you when someone replies to your comment. These are not complaint notifications — just automatic alerts about replies.

To disable reply notifications:

  • Log in to the desktop site: Dailymail.co.uk
  • Go to your profile via ‘My Profile’ at the top right
  • Click ‘Edit my profile and preferences’
  • Untick the box labelled ‘Send Reply Notifications’ (located above “Username”)
  • Click ‘Confirm changes’ — you’ll see a confirmation message at the top

Once completed, you’ll stop receiving reply emails.

17. How do I enable email notifications when someone replies to my comment?

To start receiving reply alerts:

  • Log in to the desktop site: Dailymail.co.uk
  • Click ‘My Profile’ at the top right
  • Select ‘Edit my profile and preferences’
  • Tick the box labelled ‘Send Reply Notifications’ (located above “Username”)
  • Click ‘Confirm changes’ — a message will appear confirming your update

After this, you’ll begin receiving email alerts when someone responds to your comment.
