MOTHER’S Day is coming this weekend and there are some decent hidden discounts around to treat mum without spending like crazy.
We’ve uncovered free cards, a gift for nothing, cheap days out for £3 and even last-minute flowers.
Many are tucked away within your existing subscriptions and paid-for services.
So what are you waiting for? Grab them before they’re gone and save a few quid.
#1 Free cards
Forget paying for a Mother’s Day card – you can get one completely free for a limited time.
And it’s not any cheap card either, you can spend up to £4.99.
The cards are available from TG Jones (what was WHSmith on the high street until last year) if you’re a Three customer.
Just use the Three+ app to redeem yours.
There are only 20,000 codes available so move quick.
#2 Free chocolate
If you’re a Vodafone customer there’s a £2 voucher to spend at Sainsbury’s this week.
The marketing says it’s to spend on chocolate but actually you can spend it on pretty much anything in your normal food shop.
You can use it to cover the entire cost of a purchase up to £2 or towards the cost of something more expensive.
If you want to nab free chocolate, here are some £2 and less options that could work for Mother’s Day:
- Terry’s Chocolate Orange Milk Tablet 90g – £1.50
- Storck Toffifee Pieces x15 125g – £1.50 with Nectar Card
- Guylian Seashells Chocolates x6 65g – £1.50 with Nectar Card
- Lindt Lindor Milk Chocolate Truffles Treat Box 37g – £1.50 with Nectar Card
- Milka Hazelnut Chocolate Bar 100g – £1.65
There are 80,000 codes available from the My Rewards section in the Vodafone app.
#3 Cheap day out
Why not treat mum to the cinema this Mother’s Day? There are plenty of ways to get cheap and even free tickets.
If you’re a Sky Cinema subscriber, you get two free Vue tickets every month that can be used on Sundays.
Three is currently offering two Cineworld tickets for £3 at the moment to use any day.
And if you’re a Prime subscriber you get two Odeon tickets for £10 at the moment too.
#4 Last minute flowers
If you’ve left it really last minute and want some flowers for mum, fear not.
You can get some delivered from Uber or Deliveroo in minutes.
And although you might need to pay for the privilege of having them delivered the flowers themselves aren’t as expensive as you might think.
The key is looking at the supermarkets, which are all available on food delivery apps these days.
For example, my local Morrisons has a bunch of long-stem roses at 40 per cent off for £4.14 – and if I get some other shopping bits beyond the value of £25 there’s no delivery fee.
If you want slightly fancier flowers – ie from a florist – you can get those from Uber and Deliveroo too.
Deliveroo currently has a discount code to get £15 off a £30 spend at some florists, using code FLORIST15.
BONUS MOTHER’S DAY DEALS
- The Asda Rewards app is offering a £1 off coupon when you spend at least £6 on Mother’s Day cards and flowers.
Three Smyths toy stores are giving out free tulips on Saturday while stocks last – they’ll be available at the Glasgow, Stockport and Kidderminster stores - For younger ones wanting to treat mum, how about a trip to Longleat Zoo? Mums get free entry with the ticket of a child
- Morrisons shoppers can buy a chocolate and flowers bundle using their More card for a tenner
- Three+ also has a £5 off voucher that can be used thousands of restaurants and takeaways across the UK
