WITH December just days away you might be eyeing up a luxury Advent calendar.
But instead of buying into the pricey trend, pick up an empty felt pocket calendar for £2.99 at Amazon.co.uk and make your own version for a lot less.
BUILD IT UP: The Lego City Advent Calendar is £19.99 at Lego.com. Instead, pick up the felt Father Christmas 24-pocket calendar for £2.99 at Amazon.co.uk.
Get a small set such as the Lego City Aeroplane, £7.20, Argos.
Put a few pieces in each day’s compartment and every day they get to build a bit more, ready to complete on Christmas Day.
Savvy parents could also salvage a long-forgotten Lego set from the toy box.
TEA TIME: Buy Twinings Black Tea Discovery pack at Tesco for £3.50 (20 bags) and separate out the individual tea bags into your calendar pockets along with a couple of your usual brew.
Each morning you could be sipping on Creamy Vanilla, Gingerbread Spice or Vanilla chai or English breakfast.
PUZZLE PIECES: Buy a jigsaw such as the naughty elf-themed 35-piece puzzle from Wilko for £1.49.
Put a few pieces in each day’s pocket and by December 25, you’ll have a complete picture.
It’s a brilliant family activity to keep on the kitchen counter and this works well for staging naughty elf mischief during December — the elves could ‘steal’ or mess up the puzzle.
LOVE NOTES: It’s the thought that counts so fill your calendar with 24 little notes with jokes, compliments or memories for your partner.
Or write them positive affirmations to read every morning.
BEAUTY BARGAINS: Beauty Advent calendars are the hardest to recreate — the Vogue Beauty calendar is £355.
But you can fill your own by splitting up bargain sets, such as the Jingle Bliss hand cream and nail file duo, £1.42, or the Perfect Your Pout lip gloss and lip balm set, £1.98, both Asda.
You could also add in a range of cheap Primark make-up such as nail polishes, 60p each or lip liners for 75p each.
Check B&M for bargain fragrance sets from £2.
