BUYING in bulk is a great way to make savings on shopping.
Big packs tend to cost less, leaving you able to budget better for the little things in life.
But if you want to go large on your shopping, then you may need to improve your buying habits, too.
Try these ideas . . .
WHAT’S IN STORE: Instead of sticking with your normal supermarket, search out your nearest Costco.
The annual membership fee for shopping in-store is £42, and there are some restrictions on who can join.
But anyone can sign up online for the same fee and still make savings.
You can get six 125ml tubes of Colgate Advanced White for £12.99, while the cheapest supermarket price for one tube is currently £3 at Asda.
So that’s a great saving of a fiver.
SUPERMARKET SWEEP: Don’t ignore traditional supermarkets, as many have a selection of larger sizes.
Look for “bigger packs” on the Sainsbury’s and Morrisons websites.
At Sainsbury’s, you’ll find a pack of 44 Birds Eye chicken nuggets is £4 with a Nectar card — that’s £1 cheaper than a pack of 24 at the same store.
GOOD TO KNOW: The Too Good To Go app is a great place to pick up food which would otherwise go to waste.
When it comes to bulk buys, you need to look for the app’s “delivery” tab, where you can typically find branded goods for less than half-price.
At the moment, you can get a bundle of 12 Sacla pasta sauces for £13.99, saving around £20.
BEST BUYS: Only load up on long-lasting products, such as dried goods, tins and household items including loo roll and laundry powder.
Check expiry dates to make sure you’ll eat the edible items in time.
Big packs are usually cheaper, but not always, so check the price per kilo or litre alongside smaller sizes.
Don’t be tempted by impulse buys.
Would you still buy it if it wasn’t cheaper?
If not, put it back on the shelf.
