Four free and fun ways to spend the weekend with loved ones this September

WHEN the weather turns wet and grey, it can feel trickier to socialise without spending loads of money.

But there are plenty of free, fun activities that you can try out with friends or family.

Here are some ways to spend the weekend with loved ones without burning a hole in your pocket . . .

FLY A KITE: Take advantage of the blustery weather and make a kite to fly at a local park.

It’s a lovely wholesome activity for children of all ages.

There are plenty of guides online that will lead you through making and decorating a kite — it can be fiddly, so is better suited for kids aged seven and above.

Or you can buy one for as little as £3.50 from Hobbycraft.

BUFF UP: Immerse yourself in a new topic and learn a thing or two with a trip to a free museum.

There are plenty of venues across the UK that don’t cost a thing, including most of the big ones in London.

You can see a list of free museums and attractions at whichmuseum.co.uk.

PLAY TIME: Dreary evenings are the perfect backdrop for playing games at home.

Take it in turn to host friends.

You don’t even need to invest in new games.

You can play classics such as charades or try Two Truths And A Lie where one person makes three statements and others have to guess which one of the three is false.

FEELING PAMPERED: Heading off to a spa is the ultimate luxury for a girly catch-up.

But you can create a sanctuary with pals at home instead.

Light some candles and put on face masks while having a natter over a bottle of wine.

Boots sells sheet masks for £1 or you can pick up Nivea face packs from Wilko for £1.29 each.
