FORMER Premier League star Simon Mignolet was booked for celebrating a penalty save in the referee’s face.
The ex-Liverpool and Sunderland ace lined up between the sticks for Club Brugge’s 4-1 Champions League group stage win over Monaco last night.
But things got off to a disastrous start for the Belgians when they conceded a ninth-minute penalty.
Brugge were left outraged by the decision, which they felt was harsh.
Yet Mignolet, 37, defied his age to keep out the resulting spot-kick with a terrific save.
The stopper roared in delight after turning the ball round the post with his finger tips.
And he then proceeded to celebrate in the face of the referee.
However, Mignolet’s joy was short-lived as he received a yellow card for his actions.
The veteran was also unable to bask in his side’s victory after coming off the pitch injured just 10 minutes later.
Fans certainly found Mignolet’s eventful role amusing.
