FORMER Manchester United coach Dave Hughes has been sacked by Newport County.
The League Two outfit are flirting with relegation out of the EFL as they sit rock bottom on just 11 points.
And today’s 1-0 loss to relegation rivals Shrewsbury Town proved to be the last straw for the boss, who has managed just three wins in 16 games.
He is joined in his departure by assistant manager Wayne Hatswell.
Fans had mixed feelings on the dismissal, pointing to other issues at the club that made the job particularly difficult.
One fan said on X: “Probably the right decision, based on results, but I don’t think Jurgen Klopp would have a prayer at the reins of County under the present regime.”
Some pointed to chairman Huw Jenkins‘s summer business as the real flaw in the team, saying: “Anyone that’s watched League 2 football over the last 10 years would know you can’t fill half your squad with 23 year olds with no league experience.”
A third fan simply added: “‘Disappointing start to the season’ is the biggest understatement of all time.”

Hughes was only in the job for six months, having joined from his role at United in May.
He was previously the head of Cardiff‘s academy, and has also held roles with Southampton and Aston Villa.
