Wilko are selling an £11 duvet to keep you extra warm

MattressNext CEO Martin Seeley told the Daily Record his top tips for staying warm in bed with temperatures falling.

And he emphasised the importance of changing duvet in order to create a cushy and comfortable environment at home.

Tog ratings on duvets are also very important, as they tell us how well the blanket can trap warm air, as opposed to how thick it is.

For those looking to stay warm during the frostier seasons, Martin recommends getting at least a 10.5 tog duvet.

Going for a bargain at a major retailer, Wilko is selling an £11.19 duvet with down-like filling – bound to keep you comfy amid the falling temperatures.

It is covered with luxurious soft touch microfibre, while its interior contains a lavish hollowfibre fill for extra comfort – and it even has the perfect tog rating.

The Sleepworks Single White Soft Like Down Duvet 10.5 Tog is also machine washable and hypo-allergenic.

And shoppers will be urgently rushing to get hold on one when they realise how much it will save them in the long run.

Households looking to get through the colder seasons without splurging on overwhelming heating bills should also follow a few other tips.

With temperatures dropping as summer says its final goodbyes, many of us are noticing an urge to turn on the heating.

But with a handful of solutions, you may be able to save large amounts by following a few handy tips.

Keeping in line with bedroom hacks, shoppers should turn their attention to another factor if they want to become less reliant on heating.

Improved mattresses

Mattresses can actually keep you warmer at night – with memory foam being a recommended option.

This season may be a good time to get one too, if your sleep is being affected by lumps or bumps.

They make for a great long term investment – and are bound to help you save this winter.

Memory foam can trap body heat, and features body-hugging abilities which contain each person’s heat.

This leaves sleepers submerged in warmth, even with the frosty weather.

Weighted blankets

A weighted blanket can also help avert rising energy bills, Martin explained.

They prove a great alternative to electric blankets which will also increase electricity costs.

These are typically available in weights between 4kg and 13kg – with blankets feeling like a heavy hug.

In addition to this – blankets are beneficial for calming your nervous system throughout your sleep.

Anyone can enjoy the advantages of a weighted blanket, but research has shown that they are ideal for those suffering from anxiety, insomnia or autism.

Layer up

When inside, layering up can also prove a great way to save on bills.

Warmer clothing can be an effective means of cutting costs.

Natural fabrics like cotton can help retain heat, with clothing featuring thicker weaves also an effective asset.

Martin recommends a “three-layer cake” technique, including flannel sheets, cotton or microfibre and then a wool throw on.
