A MOTOR enthusiast has revealed the super cheap household item that can help fill scratches on cars in seconds.
It can be incredibly frustrating and disheartening to see the exterior of your motor ruined by the smallest of marks – but help is at hand.
Here is one of the best ways to help restore its pristine appearance.
And what you probably won’t expect is how little it will actually cost you to do so.
In a blog post on gogorecipe.com, one car enthusiast shared a tip that is both simple and cheap.
They explained: “Car scratches are an inevitable part of owning a vehicle.
“Whether it’s a minor scrape from a shopping cart or a more noticeable scratch from an accidental brush with a tree branch, these blemishes can be frustrating and unsightly.
“While professional repair shops offer services to fix these issues, they can be costly and time-consuming.
“Fortunately, many car scratches can be addressed at home with simple, affordable methods.”
Simple and cheap
The expert went on to explain a cheap way to remove scratches – with an item that can cost as little as 50p from Morrisons.
They said: “Toothpaste, especially the whitening variety, contains mild abrasives that can help buff out minor surface scratches.
“Start by cleaning the scratched area with soap and water, then dry it thoroughly.
“Apply a small amount of toothpaste to a damp microfiber cloth and gently rub it onto the scratch in a circular motion.
“After a few minutes, wipe away the excess toothpaste with a clean cloth and inspect the area.
“Repeat if necessary.”
There are other tips you can try too.,
Motor expert Tim Alcock, from LeaseCar.uk, revealed that a well-known petroleum jelly-based product is another great item to use on scratches on your car.
And while there are, of course, other solutions out there, Vaseline could prove to be the most cost effective for drivers.
While it won’t completely erase those horrid white lines on the outside of your motor, the product will help to fill in scratches to make them less noticeable.
More tips
Costing just £1.25 at Tesco, you won’t even have to fork out for your new solution either.
All you need to do before applying the Vaseline to your motor is to first ensure the area is clean, and then use a cotton pad to gently rub it into the scratch.
“Not all car scratches need to be fixed by professionals,” said Tim. “They can be easily fixed with some simple DIY.”
The motor expert also suggested other ways to help cover up scratches and other marks on paintwork.
Nail varnish and vinegar are two more substances that can be used on car scratches, although only a small amount of each is recommended.
