Helen Flanagan was left red faced as she failed to identify a huge TV star in an excruciating The Weakest Link round.

The actress, 35, left her fellow contestants baffled as host Romesh Ranganathan asked her to identify which month matched the surname of a legendary Top Gear presenter.

Helen was shown an image of James May, whose surname is of course the correct answer, but she took her time to figure out who the huge star was, leaving everyone baffled.

Romesh asked Helen: ‘Look at your screen, this TV presenter shares his surname with which month of the year?’

The Coronation Street star took a long pause as she thought about her answer as her fellow guests looked around in confusion.

South London rapper Konan, from duo Krept & Konan, looked stunned as Helen continued to think about her answer.

After a pause of over 20 seconds, the star finally landed at the answer, May.

Romesh confirmed she was correct, prompting Helen to squeal in excitement and say, ‘Yes!’

The awkward moment left Konan in stitches and Helen was left in shock as she eventually received the most votes following the blunder.

Helen said: ‘Wow – that is so bad, I am so shocked. I got the main question right.’

Comedian Tim Vine, who voted for her, said: ‘The thing that made me do it was just before a correct answer when you waited for, I think, six minutes. It was quite a long time.’

The actress responded: ‘But did I get that answer right?’

‘Yes, but the clock was going down,’ Tim said.

Romesh added: ‘If it makes you feel any better she seems pretty chilled about it.’

‘Danny should be going,’ Helen slammed. ‘I answered it right. Yes, I took a little bit but I thought about the question.’

Romesh said: ‘You went through the whole year. You said May and it felt like the duration of the month of May with how long you spent deliberating. It was such a long time. I genuinely thought “has Helen forgotten there is a clock?”

‘I did, I really did,’ Helen replied.

Former Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh, who is the voiceover for the show, said: ‘Helen took so long to get the month question that I had enough time to make a cup of tea and go to the shop for biscuits – but she did get it right in the end.’

The hilarious moment comes after last year Helen appeared on The Weakest Link and was asked by Romesh: ‘In geology, the White Cliffs of Dover are principally formed of what substance, chalk or cheese?’

Hesitating, Helen replied that the answer was ‘cheese’, which was incorrect, and saw her mocked on social media.
