FIVE tourists have died at a prime holiday spot after their rental bus crashed into a tree and fell into a ravine.
In a bid to swerve an incoming car, the driver steered to the left – throwing the vehicle off the windy road, cops said.
The group of Chinese nationals were travelling from Denpasar to the Buleleng region in north Bali on Friday.
Police head Widwan Sutadi said the driver was “unable” to control the vehicle as he attempted to avoid colliding with another car.
The victims were rushed to the nearest hospital where they were treated for serious injuries.
But despite medics’ best efforts, five of them were later pronounced dead.
The driver, who cops claim showed a “lack of caution”, sustained some injuries but survived.
Sutadi said: ““As the driver was unable to control the vehicle, he swerved it to the left to crash into a tree and try to avoid a collision (with another car).
“But the minibus was thrown off and plunged into the shallow ravine.
“Due to the driver’s lack of caution when turning and descending, he veered off the asphalt road and into a community garden, causing a traffic accident.”
It comes as at least 37 people have been killed and another 24 injured in a horror bus crash in Peru.
The vehicle plunged nearly 700 feet down an enormous ravine near Ocona in the country’s southern region of Arequipa.
Harrowing pictures of the accident show the bus lying on its side by a river.
Sixty passengers were on board when the vehicle collided with a white van, sending it hurtling off the road in the early hours of this morning.
A regional health chief confirmed the death toll stands at 37 so far, and said there are 24 injured, while another report puts that number at 26.
BALI ROAD HORROR
Road accidents are a common occurrence in Bali due to the island’s windy and often, narrow roads.
Earlier this year, a British tourist was killed and his friend left in a critical condition after a horrific motorbike crash on the party island.
The 34-year-old man was killed when his bike slammed into a six-wheeler truck – leaving him with unsurvivable wounds.
He was riding home from a night out on the party island with his mate on another bike.
They were driving behind a large truck in the Buleleng area, which braked suddenly, according to reports.
The pair were unable to stop in time and both smashed into the rear of the vehicle, crushing their rented Honda Vario motorbikes.
Meanwhile, in 2023, another Brit tourist was killed in a hit-and-run in Bali.
The holidaymaker, 24, was riding a motorbike when he was knocked off by a car coming from the opposite direction.
Cops arrested the driver, 54, after he fled the scene on the Singaraja-Kintamani Highway on November 2.
The motorist told police in Bali he carried on driving as he didn’t realise he had knocked the Brit off.
He said he had thought he had just “grazed” the holidaymaker after taking a turn too wide.
