THE Christmas party season may be in full swing, but there’s no need to spend lots of money on a novelty outfit.
If you’re fretting over your festive knitwear — or lack of it — here are a few ideas to help you save some pennies . . .
SWAP SHOP: If you don’t want to splash out on a novelty outfit, borrow or swap your festive knits with friends.
You could even host a jumper swap night with friends. Ask everyone to bring an old festive jumper they’re fed up with, and switch.
CHARITY HAUL: Your first stop should be charity shops as they are bursting with gems right now.
Many even have special festive jumper rails just for this time of year.
If you can’t get to a shop, check out oxfam.org.uk for styles from £6.99.
To make your budget go further, look for timeless Fairisle or cosy plain knit styles you can wear again and again and add a pair of sparkly earrings.
PJ PARTYWEAR: The ultimate last-minute trick might be in your pyjama drawer.
A festive pyjama top or a Christmas-themed long-sleeved nightshirt can work really well for a festive event. Just pop it on over a T-shirt or vest.
It’s the comfiest option and as everyone will be wearing something similar, no one will ever know it’s a PJ top.
DIY GLAM: Get a plain jumper from the back of your wardrobe and give it a festive glow-up.
Attach sparkly earrings with fabric glue, hook tiny decorative baubles to your knit or use safety pins to add sprigs of holly from the garden. No time? Just add a tinsel scarf.
BRIGHT SPARK: For a guaranteed show-stopper, wear a plain jumper and add a battery pack of fairy lights round your neck.
You can pick up string lights from £2.99 at Amazon — guaranteed to keep you glowing all night long.
SUPERMARKET STEAL: If you really want something new, head to your nearest supermarket for a cracking deal.
Tesco, George at Asda and Tu at Sainsbury’s all sell jumpers starting from around £14 – and if you fit into teen sizes, check out the kids’ sections for even cheaper knits.
