WITH the arrival of autumn – and winter just around the corner – soggy coats and ruined shoes will cost you a fortune to replace.
Safeguard your gear with these cheap tricks to see you through the worst of the weather.
PROTECT IT: A can of waterproofing spray is your best defence in rainy season.
Give clean, dry coats and shoes a good spray from 15cm away, especially along the seams.
For a quick fix, Shoe Zone’s own spray is £4.
WAX ON: Barbour-style jackets might need re-waxing at this time of year.

Try to revive yours by gently rubbing a dry bar of soap over worn areas, such as shoulders and cuffs. Then blast with a hairdryer.
Also, if you do get caught in a shower, never dump a wet coat in the wardrobe. Instead, hang it on a padded hanger to air dry naturally first.
DON’T BE SUEDE: Suede shoes are a nightmare in the rain, so resist the temptation to step outside without safeguarding them.
You must spray them before they get wet for proper protection.
Pick up a can of specialist suede protector from Timpson for £8 and, if you do get caught in a shower, stuff your shoes with newspaper and let them dry naturally.
TREAT YOUR TRAINERS: For everyday scuffs and marks, an eraser works wonders on rubber soles and even some fabric surfaces.
For deeper cleans, mix a small amount of washing-up liquid with warm water and gently scrub with an old toothbrush.
Always remove laces and insoles for a thorough clean, and stuff shoes with paper while they dry to prevent them from losing their shape.
Regular maintenance means that your trainers will last longer and look better between wears.
BOOT BONUS: For leather boots, a simple dab of Vaseline rubbed into scuffs hides marks and adds a bit of waterproofing.
But for serious protection, a tin of wax from Wilko, £2.50, will keep them supple and dry all winter.
Buff gently to make your boots shine.
