DO you have a mate you rate? Then be sure to celebrate them this Friendsgiving.
This nod to Thanksgiving — which will be marked in the US on Thursday — is a time where pals can sit down together to enjoy a feast without the family fuss.
Here’s how to host without spending the most . . .
SHARE THE COST: Make it a pot-luck affair where everyone brings a dish.
But to avoid having five bowls of mashed potato, assign a side dish to each friend. For the main, skip turkey and go for chicken.
An extra-large chicken is cheapest at Aldi at £5.49.
DIY DRINKS: Ditch pricey Prosecco and make a big batch of mulled cider.
Simply simmer own-brand apple juice in a slow cooker with a sliced orange, cinnamon sticks and cloves.
It fills the house with an amazing smell and will set the scene for your Friendsgiving.
Add a splash of Tesco Napoleon brandy (£7) for a boozy hit.
PENNY PUDDINGS: A classic apple pie is a great budget dessert.
Head to Asda and pick up a roll of shortcrust pastry, four cooking apples, some Rowse Honey and cinnamon.
Pre-heat the oven to 200C. Core and chop the apples into even chunks and add to a baking tin.
Drizzle with honey and dust over a teaspoon of cinnamon.
Roll out the pastry to make your pie lid and bake for 20-30 minutes until golden. Get a friend to bring the custard!
DECORATE CHEAP: To make a budget table runner, cover your table with an old (clean) sheet and run a roll of baking paper or brown paper down the centre.
For extra autumnal touches, go foraging for pine cones in your local park or scatter branches across the table.
For a glowing centrepiece, give old jars a good wash then drop in some tea lights to place on the table. Grab a pack of 100 tea lights at Poundland for £4.
THANKS, FOR NOTHING: As an extra-thoughtful decorative touch, write a heartfelt message to each guest on a piece of card and attach it to their glass with a bit of string, or leave it on their placemat as their place setting.
It costs nothing but will mean everything.
