ONE of the best ways to make some extra money is to have a “Vinted” wardrobe clear-out.
Fashion can be your cash-in on the pre-loved clothing site — but it’s not always that simple when your stuff doesn’t shift.
Improve your sales technique with these tips.
PERFECT PICS: Good photos are crucial. Crumpled clothing hanging limply from a wire hanger is less likely to sell.
Professional declutter and Vinted expert Janine McDonald says you should always iron your item first.
“Display on a flat surface and take pictures from above. To make sure it stands out from the background, lay dark items on a white sheet.”
She also advises taking pictures of the front and back, along with the size and care labels.
Finally, photograph — and describe — any defects or damage.
SPEAK UP: If someone ‘likes’ an item you are selling, follow it up, says Janine of Clear the Clutter Now.
“People will scroll, ‘like’, then forget about it. Remind them by sending a message. Tell them you are doing a parcel drop-off the next day and you can send it out if they’re still interested.”
TO BUMP OR NOT: Vinted has a paid-for ‘bump’ feature, where you can get your item listed more prominently.
It sounds like a great sales tactic, but is it worth spending extra?
Janine says: “It’s only really worth it if you are selling a more exclusive or designer brand.”
GO A BUNDLE: Consider bundling up your items with others. You could make an ‘Age ten school uniform’ bundle or one of size-12 T-shirts.
“It makes people feel they are getting more for their money,” says Janine.
Go further and offer ‘buy one, get one free’ or ‘three for the price of two’.
PERFECT POSTING: Great customer service is the key to good feedback, which boosts your future listings.
Post items quickly and use smarter packaging, even wrapping in tissue paper.
“It makes a great impression,” says Janine. Weigh up the cost against the sale value.
