A firefighter has been left traumatised after finding his son’s body in a car crash he was sent to provide first aid at.
Omar Masia, 25, was returning home from a house party with four friends on October 25 when the car they were travelling in ended upside down in a ditch at 4am in Gallura, Sardinia, Italy.
The driver of the vehicle had managed to escape the wreck and ran to a nearby home to ask for help, unable to call for emergency services himself due to poor phone signal in the area.
A team of firefighters rushed to the scene of the crash to begin helping everyone inside the BMW, including Omar, an electrician from Calangianu on the island of Sardinia, who was trapped in the back seat.
But one of the firefighters was Omar’s father, Massimiliano.
Sassari Fire Department Commander Antonio Giordano told La Repubblica: ‘We’re in shock. The entire team went down the embankment, and our Massimiliano realized his son was in front of him.
‘All the boys were freed, taken to the overpass, and resuscitated. Unfortunately, the only one who didn’t make it was Omar’.
Giordano said he had ordered psychological support for the grief-stricken father: ‘I’ve already personally called the psychological support service for Massimiliano and the four colleagues who were with him last night.

‘Everyone is devastated by the tragedy that has struck our family’.
An investigation is now underway to understand how the tragedy occurred.
Though speeding is being blamed for Omar’s death, the condition of the road is also being looked at as the area had experienced poor weather in recent days.
Alcohol and drugs tests are also being run to investigate whether they may have had any impact on the crash.
