Thankfully, the brave guard managed to fend off the con before colleagues came to assist.

Last night a source told how the attack was “terrifying”.

The insider said: “She was very lucky. Some of the guys in this place are proper hard men.

“She had a lucky escape as it could have been a lot worse.

“This guy clearly intended to kidnap the officer and take her hostage.

“It is terrifying.

“Who knows what would have happened if she hadn’t overpowered him.

“It just shows how dangerous the job of a prison officer is.

“Thankfully the officer hasn’t been left too seriously injured.”

It is understood as well as her neck wound the turnkey suffered other cuts and scrapes during her ordeal but it is believed her physical injuries are not serious.

Glenochil nick holds a mix of high, medium and low security inmates with lags transferred from other jails rather than being sent directly from court.

The jail, which opened in 1966, holds around 660 people and has held notorious inmates including double rapist Sean Moynihan and convicted murderer James O’Rourke.

In 2022 an officer was stabbed twice by a blade-nut inmate during an alleged attack.

Speaking of the latest incident, a Scottish Prison Service spokesperson said: “The safety and wellbeing of our staff is a key priority.

“We take a zero-tolerance approach to violence and incidents of alleged criminality are reported to Police Scotland.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Thursday, 30 November, 2025, we received a report of an attempted abduction at Glenochil Prison. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
