The first rule in unraveling conspiracies: Follow the money. Earlier this week, FBI Director Kash Patel declared that the riots in Los Angele are not organic spillovers from extemporaneous protests against ICE, but well-funded operations designed to create mayhem in the streets. The point of the riots is to terrorize communities and intimidate federal law enforcement from carrying out legitimate operations, Patel said at the time, and the FBI planned to roll up the conspirators forthwith.
This morning, the FBI delivered on one notable instance. Video cameras had caught someone distributing expensive “bionic shield” face masks to rioters in order to resist police crowd-control measures. Investigators identified Alejandro Orellana as the supplier, and paid him a visit today:

Here’s the video from Monday, in which cameras caught the distribution in real time:
🚨 JUST IN: Trucks full of BIONIC FACE SHIELDS are showing up to distribute to rioters on the streets of Los Angeles
“They’re handing them out like CANDY!”
THOUSANDS of dollars-worth show up in each truckload
DOJ MUST IDENTIFY AND PROSECUTE THOSE FUNDING THIS! pic.twitter.com/8en5aNK0Ca

Assuming that the FBI got the right guy, it seems pretty clear that he’s not the person who funded this project. It also doesn’t appear that Orellana is particularly good at covering tracks either.
However, Orellana would be a small fry even if they pin this on him. The FBI will likely get all of his communication devices in a warrant, and their first order of business will be to follow the money. Who fronted the thousands of dollars spent to encourage violence and obstruction on the streets of Los Angeles? That might make for a very interesting RICO case, given the plethora of crimes committed in the streets already.
This is still a breaking-news alert, but the NY Post has already picked up on it. They quote US Attorney Bill Essayli from the same video above, and note that the Department of Justice is serious about unraveling the entire infrastructure of leftist radicals creating violence in the streets this time:
“We are moving quickly to identify and arrest those involved in organizing and/or supporting civil disorder in Los Angeles,” said Essayli.
In other words, this ain’t 2020. We’ll update this post as developments warrant.
