During a past interview with Vogue in 2023, Silverstone reflected on her initial reaction to the character of Cher – a wealthy Beverly Hills high school student.

‘I found Cher on the page to be materialistic and unappealing. And really annoying, to be honest,’ the actress told the outlet.

‘But I realized that was just me judging her. Once I started working on her I found all the heart and all the love.’

Clueless was a box office success upon its release in theaters and also garnered positive reviews from critics. The movie raked in $88 million on a budget of $12 million.

In regards to the leap of fame Alicia experienced due to the film’s success, the star admitted that it had been ‘really intense.’

The Crush actress added, ‘I didn’t expect any of the reaction that we got. It was a lot, and I think if anything it all pushed me away from doing this job for a while and got me so much more into my activism.

‘I eventually found my love of acting again, but at the time I didn’t know anything about what I was stepping into.’

And while also talking to E! News, Alicia revealed that she took some of the clothing from set when production wrapped.

‘But when I left, I realized, “Oh, well this isn’t me, that was Cher.” So I couldn’t figure out how to wear them in real life and I gave them all away, sadly. No one has any idea where they’ve all gone.’

In the movie, Cher falls for Josh Lucas – her former stepbrother – who was played by Paul Rudd.

In regards to her feelings towards her character falling for her former stepbrother, Silverstone said, ‘It wasn’t like she was raised with him for God’s sake. Her dad probably had so many different wives.’

She then added, ‘I’ve given it zero thought. This right here is the most thought I’ve put into that.’

A teen sitcom that was based on the 1995 film was previously created and aired on both ABC and UPN networks for three seasons from 1996-1998.

Rachel Blanchard, Stacey Dash, Donald Faison, Elisa Donovan and David Lascher were some of the main cast that appeared in the show.

Clueless director Amy Heckerling created the sitcom, but Silverstone was not able to reprise her role at the time due to having a development deal with a different production company.

An off-Broadway musical of the same name was shown in NYC from 2018 through early 2019.

A new version was created with music by KT Tunstall and lyrics written by Glenn Slater.

The latest production officially hit the stage in London’s West End last month in March at the Trafalgar Theatre.
