The Brazil star was attending a barbecue at a street food kiosk in Barra de Tijuca when officers located him.

The warrant for his arrest was issued back in 2024 after he was found to have failed to pay child maintenance costs.

His debt amounts to 220,744.57 BRL – which equates to roughly 31,500 GDP.

After he was arrested, the ex-footballer was taken to a police station nearby.

Reports have revealed that this is his fourth arrest relating to unpaid maintenance.

Jo, who last played for fourth-tier Brazilian side Itabirito, co-parents with Brazilian influencer Maiara Quiderolly.

The pair engaged in an affair while he was still married to Claudia Silva.

From that relationship, Joao Gabriel was born.

This is the Jo’s eighth child, and sixth outside of wedlock.

Quiderolly and Jo reportedly ended their relationship after she became pregnant.

Back in 2024, he was hauled off his team bus and arrested after refusing to pay child support to Quiderolly.

He was taken to the 10th Police district of Campinas where he was held overnight.

His lawyer, Artur Eugenio Matias, told reporters: “There was an arrest warrant issued in a city [the state of] Bahia, for a reasonably small debt.

“According to the lawyer handling the case, the debt has been paid.

“Jo will go through the IML (Legal Medical Institute) and then go to the prison of the 2nd DP.

“Tomorrow this debt, without any doubt, will be paid, and we hope that he will be released.”

He was later released after paying the sums required.

Throughout his career, he played for a number of well-known clubs in both Europe and South America.

These include Manchester City, Everton, Corinthians and Atletico Mineiro.
