A FORMER footballer raped a vulnerable drunk woman while she slept.
Oluwasanmi Odelusi, 32, met his victim, 27, while she was visiting the UK from the US with two female friends.
Retired striker Odelusi, who played for Bolton Wanderers, Coventry City and Wigan Athletic, was invited back to their Airbnb after a night out.
He had consensual sex with one but she asked him to stop and he did so, a court heard.
But he then went into the victim’s room and raped her as she slept.
A pal later told police as the victim was too scared to do it herself.
DNA belonging to Odelusi, of Barking, East London, was later matched to traces found on the victim.
He was found guilty of rape at Snaresbrook crown court and jailed for seven years.
Charles Evans, for the prosectution, said: “A sleeping person cannot give consent. It is that simple.
“It is not the Crown’s case that the complainant was too intoxicated to consent, but it is the Crown’s case that her intoxication certainly contributed to the circumstances whereby the defendant was able to rape the sleeping complainant.”
In a statement read to the court for Odelusi, he said: “I want to begin by expressing my sincere and heartfelt remorse to all those who have been affected.
“Today, I stand at a crossroads as my name, once a source of pride, has been tarnished.”
