A house hunter on Escape To The Country became emotional as he explained the heartbreaking reason for his and his wife’s move.
Shortly before the search for Matt and Sarah’s dream home began on Monday’s episode, Matt was overwhelmed by emotion.
The couple, who had a whopping £650,000 budget, were looking to relocate from Berkshire to Herefordshire and had their hearts set on a modern new build.
Their requirements included three bedrooms, bathrooms on several floors and space for their campervan.
Matt and Sarah also said that it was important for them to move into a close-knit community.
Matt explained that they needed a home well-suited to his needs after his arm was amputated back in 2019 following a devastating cycling accident.

Matt explained that they needed a home well suited to his needs after his arm was amputated back in 2019 following a devastating cycling accident
His initial condition was so serious following the injury that he was airlifted to hospital and spent a month in a coma.
Matt explained: ‘I was coming down a hill, but it was raining, then it was dry, then it was raining.
‘The roads were very greasy and the guy behind me said as I went around the bend coming down the hill, the bike just went straight on so I hit the oncoming car.’
In a fortunate twist of fate, the car that hit the house-hunter was being driven by a doctor and contained two more doctors as its passengers – the woman’s son-in-law and daughter.
This meant that Matt was able to receive immediate, live-saving care.
He added: ‘Her son-in-law held my head up for an hour.’
It was at this point that Matt became very emotional and Sarah finished his story for him.
She said: ‘So he turned down and Matt had stopped breathing and they knew. So most people would say don’t touch someone but he turned Matt straight away.’
With the assistance of presenter Sonali Shah, the pair viewed several potential new homes, but it was the show’s mystery house – which went outside their desired specifications – that really blew them away – although they ultimately decided not to make an offer on it
Matt added: ‘He knew I’d stopped breathing and flipped me over and held my head for… could be an hour and a half.’

Priced at £650,000, the Victorian house had an annex, which could perfectly fit the couple’s business, as well as half an acre of land outside.
Blown over by the mystery house, Matt, who was once again emotional, said: ‘If I hadn’t had the accident, we wouldn’t be standing here in this garden, looking at this beautiful property.
‘It’s almost like however negative you feel, there is always a great positive to come and that’s how it feels to me. From a bad, dark place I’ve been in, this is the brightest I’ve felt in a very long time.’
But despite being impressed by the house, the couple did not make an offer as they are still waiting for a buyer for their current house.
Escape To The Country airs on BBC One and is available to stream on iPlayer.
