DAVINA McCall opened up on the moment her husband helped her after they learned she had breast cancer.
The TV presenter told fans in November how she’d been quietly battling the disease – which at the time was less than a year after having surgery to remove a brain tumour.
Davina had received the breast cancer diagnosis months after getting the all clear from a mammogram and The Masked Singer judge thought she had to be positive in the face of such devastating news.
But it was her hair stylist husband Michael Douglas that helped her with the the shock of the diagnosis.
“He was like, ‘okay, so look, I’m just letting you know if you if you want to kind of get angry with me or just like, tell me you’re angry. Like, you know, I’m here’,” she recalled per The Express.
Davina was keeping her true feelings bottled up and but eventually she became “very angry.”
“I was like, ‘I’m not angry. It’s fine. It’s meant to be. I’ve obviously got to learn something’, [I was] trying to be positive, right?” Davina explained.
“And he said, ‘But if you were angry, it’s okay. You can, you can be angry’.”
Davina added: “Then I got really angry, and I got the cushions out and the pillow [punching them] and that was quite therapeutic.”
The from Big Brother host explained that getting the breast cancer diagnosis was like a “punch.”
“It was just quite a difficult year and in October interestingly two years almost to the month where I found out I had a brain tumour, I got breast cancer, and it felt like being punched in the face by the universe,” she told Jamie Theakston on his Heart Breakfast show last week.
Earlier this year, Davina revealed she would be scaling back her work commitments following her cancer experiences which served as a wake up call.
Appearing on the Miss Me? podcast in January, she told hosts Miquita Oliver and Jordan Stephens about her former addictions to heroin and alcohol: “I had an amazing breakthrough when I got clean in the early nineties.
“I had another huge breakthrough after I had my brain tumour removed. I realised that I needed to de-stress my life.
“Interestingly, I realised that – but then the breast cancer, which I thought was a very, very frightening thing, made me realise that I really, really had to put that into place. And I have now.”
Opening up about her plan to step back from work slightly, Davina said: “I’m going to work a four-day week. I feel so much better now about my life and trying to get it more balanced.”
Davina secretly married Michael last year.
