EAGLE-EYED soap fans have called out an apparent huge show blunder in the Corriedale trailer.
The sneak peek scenes for the programme – which will see a mash-up of ITV soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale for the first time – has teased devastating scenes impacting those from both sides of the Pennines.
With the date and start time for the groundbreaking piece of telly confirmed, soap fans have been treated to initial snippets of the action.
This has included the harrowing aftermath of a catastrophic car pile-up and teases multiple deaths as lives of some of the soap’s biggest characters hang in the balance.
New characters confirmed as being amongst the residents of Weatherfield and Emmerdale caught up in the drama are Corrie’s Kit Green, James Bailey, Asha Alahan, Carla Connor and Shona Platt.
Meanwhile Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle, Sarah Sugden, Charity Dingle, Jacob Gallagher, Robert Sugden and Joe Tate will also feature.
In the aftermath of the multiple vehicle smash police detective Kit takes control of the situation whilst a frantic Carla can be seen trying to calm someone down.
Injured Shona and David Platt are tended to at the roadside by Emmerdale paramedic Jacob Gallagher, whilst Corrie’s own trainee paramedic Asha Alahan shares the screen with Cain Dingle as she tries to help more casualties.
Yet it is when the teaser trailer showcased scenes inside a medical ward that fans suspected a blooper.
They showed a nurse entering a blue-walled room, with the scenes filmed from behind.
She is seen heading to a bed with a white name sign pinned above.
Clearly visible is the name Tate – a family who star in Yorkshire-based Emmerdale – yet the specific family member’s first name could not be made out.
Despite this, savvy soap watchers know that it is either Joe or Kim whose life is in danger – and who is lying in the hospital ward.
One took to X to flag the seeming mishap and wrote: “Which Tate is in this hospital bed?!”
Another posted: “Reckon it’s Joe but if it isn’t Joe then most likely Robert as well as they both ran close to the cars together.”
One wrote: “Must be Joe.”
Corrie cash crisis: shock exits for 2025
ITV bosses are locked in a battle to save the cash-strapped soap.
This means that a number of stars have either been axed from or have abandoned the long-running serial drama.
Colson Smith – Craig Tinker
The character of Craig Tinker has been axed by bosses after 14 years. After he was told of the news in Autumn 2024, Colson Smith confirmed that would be written out of the show with scenes to air later this year. Craig’s on-screen mum, Beth Tinker, also left the show in the summer when actress Lisa George was written out from the role.
Sue Cleaver – Eileen Grimshaw
After 25 years playing Eileen Grimshaw, former I’m A Celebrity campmate Sue Cleaver will quit the show. The Sun on Sunday reported in January that she’s already begun to film her exit scenes. However the character will not be killed off in case Sue opts to make a return in the future.
Luca Toolan – Mason Radcliffe
Bosses decided to axe the teenage character after just 16 months after he first joined the show. Recent scenes saw Mason stabbed by his criminal brothers after his pal Dylan brought a knife in an attempt to defend him.
Sue Devaney – Debbie Webster
In November 2024, we revealed that Debbie Webster is set to be killed off after 40 years on the cobbles. The character will die as part of a heartbreaking long-running dementia storyline.
Charlotte Jordan – Daisy Midgeley
The actress became the fifth star to leave Coronation Street in just one month. We revealed that she will bow out of the ITV soap later this year after four years on-screen. Charlotte told sources that she’s hungry to see what other opportunities await.
Shelley King – Yasmeen Metcalfe
The actress has played Yasmeen Metcalfe on the cobbles for the past 11 years and we revealed in January that she finished filming her final scenes. This follows the departure of her on-screen partner Stu Carpenter.
Another then playfully wrote: “Frank, back from the dead.”
The show’s explosive trailer also captures pregnant women caught up in the drama, with Emmerdale’s Charity Dingle seen trying to help a screaming Shona in a scene in Hotten General Hospital.
As it draws to a close, Corrie’s Kevin and Abi Webster search for Debbie at the crash site, while a desperate Robert Sugden screams out for Aaron in the darkness alongside Joe Tate.
ON SCREEN
The one-off hour-long soap extravaganza will air on Monday, January 5 at 8pm.
On that evening, Emmerdale will be broadcast at 7pm, before Coronation Street at 7.30pm.
Then the historic Corriedale will follow on a one-hour slot.
ITV has also confirmed that the special crossover show will not be made available on ITVX earlier that day.
The special episode is a celebration of the soap genre and will launch ITV’s new ‘soap power hour’ scheduling pattern for Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
After the episode the ITV soaps will move to a new schedule.
