EFL forced to step in as 11,000-capacity stadium’s pitch is covered by giant TENT

LEAGUE ONE side Lincoln City are using a giant TENT to cover their pitch to ensure it does not freeze.

Lincoln are due to host Peterborough United on Sunday with the match being televised on Sky Sports.

So to make sure the pitch does not fall victim to the cold weather, the EFL have given Lincoln the heated dome.

It works by blowing heated air beneath the cover to prevent the pitch from freezing – as temperatures reach as low as -5.

Grounds manager Liam Markie told BBC: “We should be absolutely fine for Sunday.”

Markie has a “little app” on his phone that allows him to monitor the temperature and moisture of the playing surface.

The EFL were forced to step in because Lincoln’s usual frost sheet covers are not suitable in such low temperatures.

Markie added: “They will work to about minus three or four, but we’ve got no daytime temperatures – I think the highest we are getting to is two degrees.”

Lincoln sit second in League One, trailing leaders Cardiff by three points while Peterborough sit in 11th.

Elsewhere, Boreham Wood’s National League top-of-the-table clash against York City was postponed because of a frozen pitch.
