EASTENDERS is set to air a special episode next week – as the Queen Vic finally reopens after a devastating explosion.
The huge blast tore apart the famous pub as part of the BBC soap’s 40th anniversary special.
The soap is set to air a special episode marking 80 years since V.E. Day as the residents of Walford come together to honour and remember those who gave their lives during the war.
The episode will feature poignant nods to wartime Britain including historical footage and music associated with World War II.
And the celebrations that took place across the capital on 8th May 1945.
With the symptoms of his dementia taking hold, Nigel believes that it’s 1995 and a party is planned to mark the 50th anniversary of V.E. Day in The Vic.
Wanting to mark the moment, Phil and Jean convince Linda to coincide the re-opening of The Vic with the 80th anniversary as the residents of Walford come together.
In order to honour and remember those who gave their lives during the war.
Speaking on the special episode, Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw said: “Like many others across the UK who will be marking this poignant moment in history.
“We wanted to honour and remember those courageous individuals who gave their lives during the war with a special EastEnders episode marking 80 years since V.E. Day.”
Nigel who is played by actor Paul Bradley in the BBC soap – is suffering from young onset dementia and has been struggling to cope.
In a recent episode, the vulnerable pensioner was left for dead after a brutal gang attack.
However, after opening up to his friends – Phil has reassured him that he will look after him in future and act as his carer.
Elsewhere, Alan Carr’s Interior Design Masters which airs every Thursday at 8pm on BBC One, has been rescheduled.
Execs at the corporation have decided to air a special programme at 8pm as part of a series of special programmes for the occasion.
Titled “A Celebration to Remember,” the finale of the commemorations will culminate in a stunning concert.
Zoe Ball will take to the airwaves instead to front coverage of the spectacular show from Horse Guards Parade in London.
BBC News presenter Sophie Raworth will also appear with coverage of the service of thanksgiving from Westminster Abbey earlier that day at 10:45am.
As such, the sixth series of Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr will continue the next day on Friday instead.
The show focuses on ten talented interior designers as they battle it out for one life changing contact.
Alan Carr, 48, fronts the show alongside magazine editor Michelle Ogundehin, who serves as the judge.
