THIS is the dramatic moment part of a former Victorian church collapsed onto the street – narrowly missing passersby.
Police and fire crews rushed in after the façade of the Grade-II listed building came tumbling down in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire.
Footage shows a passerby on their phone spotting chunks of masonry falling – seconds before the building’s façade came crashing down.
Luckily, no one was injured in the incident at 10am on Saturday.
Pictures show large chunks of stone strewn across Bradford Road, which remained closed on Saturday afternoon.
The two-storey building, built in the 1850s as a United Reform Church, was most recently used as wedding venue The Monal.
In a statement, The Monal said there had been a “minor incident” at the hall, adding: “The most important news is that everyone is completely safe.”
It continued: “Our team is assessing everything to ensure the space remains safe, secure and welcoming for everyone.
“We deeply appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.”
The former Providence Place church was first listed in 1982.
Before turning into a wedding venue, the grand stone building was home to Aakash – once thought to be Britain’s biggest Indian restaurant.
The Monal recently announced it had refurbished the historic building.
After the collapse, the company said it was “actively working to resolve the situation”.
“We look forward to welcoming you all back very soon,” it added.
It comes after a large building on Ryde Road, Brighton, collapsed in July.
Dramatic pictures from the scene show the entire roof buckled inward, caving in on itself.
Residents described hearing a loud groaning noise before a plume of dust and smoke rose as the structure came down.
Fire crews scrambled with three engines and three officers, East Sussex Fire and Rescue said.
A gas company was also called in amid fears of an explosion – but engineers later confirmed gas was not to blame.
No casualties were reported.
