Donald Trump’s plan for ceasefire in Gaza appears to stall despite deal claims – after Hamas said it did not receive proposals from US President

Donald Trump‘s plan to end the war in Palestine seemed to stall yesterday – after the terrorist ruling group Hamas said it had not received any ceasefire proposals from the US President.

On Friday, Mr Trump told reporters while departing the White House: ‘It’s looking like we have a deal on Gaza, and we’ll let you know. I think it’s a deal that will get the hostages back.

‘It’s going to be a deal that will end the war.’

But as Israeli forces expanded their assault on Gaza City yesterday, a Hamas official insisted: ‘Hamas has not been presented with any plan.’

The conflict began on October 7, 2023, with an attack by Hamas which killed 1,200 Israelis and saw 251 taken hostage.

A hopeful Mr Trump added on Friday: ‘It’s going to be peace. I think we have a deal.’

And the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that, under Mr Trump’s plan, Hamas had agreed in principle to release all the Israeli hostages it still holds in return for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops.

Also included in the proposal was the end of Hamas rule in Gaza, and Israel agreeing not to annex the territory and drive out Palestinians living there, according to the newspaper.

In Gaza, meanwhile, the military action continued.

Israel said its aircraft struck 120 targets across the region over the past day as its troops pressed deeper into Gaza City.

The Palestinian Health Ministry claimed that 74 people had been killed in Gaza in the past 24 hours.

The international humanitarian organisation Doctors Without Borders announced late on Friday that it had been forced to suspend its medical activities in Gaza City because its clinics were encircled by Israeli forces, adding the move was the ‘last thing’ it wanted.

Since the war started, Israeli forces have killed more than 65,000 Palestinians in the enclave and displaced the entire population, according to Gaza’s Hamas-run health authorities.
