Do not eat warning issued as Tesco issues URGENT recall of lunch items bought by millions due to deadly contamination

Tesco is urgently recalling several of its most popular ready-to-eat pasta salads amid fears they may trigger potentially deadly food poisoning.

The supermarket giant has issued a public alert and is urging customers not to eat the affected products but to return them to store for a full refund, even if they no longer have the receipt.

The products involved include Tesco Basil Pesto & Semi Dried Tomato Pasta (225g), Tesco Chicken & Chorizo Pasta (285g), and Tesco Feta Semi Dried Tomato Pasta (290g).

The affected items have use-by dates of July 24 and 25, and may have already been consumed by unsuspecting shoppers before the warning was issued last night.

Food safety officials at the Food Standards Agency (FSA) say the products may be contaminated with salmonella—a bug that can cause vomiting, severe stomach cramps, diarrhoea and fever within hours of eating contaminated food.

While many people recover without treatment, experts warn that in vulnerable individuals—including the very young, the elderly, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems—it can trigger sepsis, organ failure and, in rare cases, death.

In an alert issued last night the FSA said: ‘If you have bought any of the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to any Tesco store for a full refund.’ More to come.
