DIEGO MARADONA’S son declared that only his father has been a better player for Napoli than Scott McTominay.
And the legendary Argentine‘s boy also declared: “If Diego was God, then Scott is Jesus.”
McTominay, 29, achieved icon status instantly in Naples following his arrival from Old Trafford in 2024.
The midfielder was instrumental in helping Napoli to land the Serie A title during his first campaign in Italy.
That was only the club’s second Scuddetto since Maradona almost single-handedly fired them to glory in 1990.
McTominay’s performances were so impressive that it earned him a Ballon d’Or ranking and also saw him named Serie A Player of the Year.
He has picked right up where he left off this term, scoring 11 times and producing four assists for Antonio Conte’s team, as well as securing Scotland’s place at the World Cup.
His latest goal secured Napoli a 1-0 win over Cagliari on Friday to keep their faint title hopes alive.
And after his heroics, Diego Armando Maradona Junior could not hide his admiration for the Scot.
He said: “After my father, McTominay is the most decisive player in the history of Napoli.

“We had God at Napoli in the form of Diego, but for me McTominay is Jesus.
“He is a completely fundamental player.”
Napoli renamed their Stadio San Paolo stadium in Maradona’s honour within hours of the icon’s death from heart failure in 2020.
The late Argentina superstar spent eight years at the club from 1984, lifting the Serie A title twice, one Coppa Italia, one Uefa Cup plus the Italian Supercup.
McTominay is currently with Scotland’s squad preparing for their upcoming friendlies ahead of the World Cup against Japan and Ivory Coast.
