Dianne Buswell to make history as first professional dancer to compete on Strictly while pregnant

DIANNE Buswell is to be the first professional dancer on Strictly to take part in the show while pregnant.

Earlier today Dianne and partner Joe Sugg, who met on the BBC 1 show, announced that they are expecting their first child.

And that means she will become the first of the show’s professionals to take part in the show so while carrying a baby.

When professional dancer Erin Boag discovered she was pregnant in 2014 she quit that year’s series.

Dianne, 36, and 34-year-old Joe posted a joint video to Instagram sharing their happy news, while also revealing they already know the sex of their baby.

They captioned the post: “Our little baby boy [red heart emoji] we cannot wait to meet you.”

Strictly Come Dancing‘s official account responded with: “So happy for you both! Huge congratulations from the whole Strictly family.”

But while Dianne might be the first pro to cope with being pregnant during the series, she’s not the only person starring on the show to have a bun in the oven.

Singer Frankie Bridge was a contestant in 2014, but had no idea she was pregnant at that time.

Frankie was paired up with dancer Kevin Clifton on the series, which was won by the late Caroline Flack and her partner Pasha Kovalev.

And 36-year-old former The Saturdays singer Frankie, actually made it to the show’s December final that year, but didn’t discover she was pregnant until after Christmas.

Speaking to the Daily Record in 2015, she mentioned that with all the physical challenges Strictly brings, she was actually glad she didn’t know.

She said: “With all the lifts and things, it’s probably best I didn’t know, to be honest.”

Dianne won the Glitterball last year when she and comedian Chris McCausland triumphed in the final.

In doing so they also made history, as Chris is the first ever blind contestant to compete on Strictly.

Joe and Dianne first met, and fell in love, when they were paired up on series 16, in 2018.

And in December last year, speaking during Strictly’s 20th anniversary special show, Joe suggested children could soon be on the horizon.

The pair reflected on their time on the show and in particular, the routine they were able to perform at Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

Joe said: “The Quickstep at Blackpool was my favourite dance for many reasons.

“I had my family come up to watch, more importantly my nan who danced there when she was younger.

“That’ll be the sort of video clip we show our great, great grandchildren.”

Which prompted Dianne to say: “Yes!”
