THE LONG-abandoned site of a former car dealership is to finally see some progress – with a decision on its redevelopment expected to come in the next few days.
A former Citroen dealership, located on Weddington Road in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, has been left empty since it was sold in 2023.
According to CoventryLive, rumours in the area have long-since suggested it would become a care home – which were later confirmed when plans for a 75-bed residential care home for Care UK were approved.
But although plans were approved, certain conditions were set that needed to be fulfilled before construction could begin.
One such condition involved a construction logistics and environmental management plan.
An application has been submitted to the borough council to lift this condition, which would allow construction to start.
The application provides details about the care home and its construction process, stating the care home will cater to elderly residents, including those who are frail or living with dementia.
The site itself will have three floors and include facilities such as car parking, drainage systems and landscaping, while using an existing entrance off Weddington Road – at least during the initial phases of construction.
A new entrance will be formed, which will become permanent once the home is operational.
Furthermore, deliveries and construction logistics will be managed to minimise disruption to local residents – who will be kept informed by newsletters and a nearby notice board.
All of this will come under review by the planning team at the Town Hall, with a decision to ultimately be made on October 10.
Certain environmental precautions will also be made, such as hard-standing surfaces, wheel washing facilities and road sweepers – in a bid to maintain cleanliness during construction.
This comes as Endeavour Hyundai, located on Tayfen Road in Bury St Edmunds, will close its doors for good on September 30 – after its owners said it couldn’t find anywhere else to relocate.
The car dealership told customers of the tragic news in an email – leaving many locals stunned.
They said in the message they had been “unable to locate suitable alternative premises” in the town.
The dealership said in the email: “We regret to inform you that Hyundai Bury St Edmunds will be closing on 30th September.”
They added: “You may have heard that the current site is going to be redeveloped.
“Unfortunately we have been unable to locate suitable alternative premises in Bury St Edmunds.”
The site bosses confirmed that for customers who regularly visit the store, their new closest site would be in Ipswich.
The statement added: “This means that your local Endeavour Hyundai will now be Hyundai Ipswich.”
