Despite being crowned six awards for her portrayal of the Queen, Foy previously admitted she was not a fan of the royals and said she was glad to have been “released” from having to play Queen Liz, who does not communicate “on an open level”.

After playing the monarch for two series, mum-of-one Claire, who identifies as a “commoner”, passed on the torch to Olivia Colman and Imelda Staunton, who played the Queen in later seasons.

Now, the Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy winner is working on a film about the launch of The Sun in 1969, where she will play our first Women’s Editor Joyce Hopkirk.

Ink, directed by Danny Boyle and currently being filmed in London, tells the story of how The Sun shook “hot metal” Fleet Street to its foundations on its way to becoming the country’s top-selling newspaper.
