Cops stop probe into break-in at Windsor Castle by two masked raiders at night

POLICE have stopped investigating a break-in at Windsor Castle by two masked raiders.

They scaled a 6ft fence on the royal estate at night as Prince William, wife Kate and their three kids slept in a nearby cottage last October.

The Sun told how the raiders stole a pick-up truck and quad bike from a farm in the Berkshire castle’s security zone and crashed through a gate.

Thames Valley Police said yesterday: “We’ve conducted an investigation following a number of lines of enquiry.

“The investigation has now been filed pending any further information coming to light.”

A source said: “The police don’t have any suspects or much of a clue who carried out this break-in.

“They have tried to investigate it thoroughly, but still don’t have anything at all to go on.

“It is pretty worrying and frightening that it has now just been dropped.

“It is not like they are the only force to struggle to solve burglaries at the moment – but you’d have thought the Windsor Castle estate would be more secure than pretty much anywhere.”

A source told us at the time: “They would have to have known the vehicles were stored and must have been watching Windsor Castle for a while.

“There are alarms at Windsor Castle but the first time anyone knew there was a break-in was when they crashed through the security barrier at Shaw Farm Gate exit.

“The barrier has needed to be replaced as it was so badly damaged.

“It was a Sunday night on a school week so the young princes and princess would have been tucked in bed at Adelaide Cottage, just around the corner but still in the grounds.”
