In shocking bodycam footage selfless hero Tim is seen clutching his throat and begging for help after a knife-wielding yob launched a savage ambush.

The terrifying clip from July 2023 shows the aftermath of the attack as the wounded officer struggles to stay on his feet.

Tim can be heard saying: “Put something on my neck here, I’ve been f***ing stabbed here.”

Moments earlier, what began as a routine traffic stop spiralled into chaos.

This was when hooded thug Jacob Brown, 27, suddenly lunged at officers from behind with a knife.

He first targeted Sgt Ansell’s colleague, Sergeant Foster, before the brave cop stepped in.

In a sickening burst of violence, Tim was repeatedly stabbed, suffering open wounds to his neck along with injuries to his arm and body.

Despite his injuries, the officer fought back.

He grappled with the knifeman and was able to grab hold of his upper body to stop him attacking others.

The chaos only ended when PC Marcus Wolstencroft fired a Taser, allowing officers to restrain and handcuff Brown.

Miraculously, no members of the public were hurt.

And in a powerful recognition of his bravery, Sgt Ansell has now been honoured with the King’s Commendation for Bravery.

He received the prestigious award at St James’s Palace this week.

Tim had already picked up a string of accolades alongside his colleagues.

These include the Chief Constable’s Annual Bravery Awards, the John Egerton Bravery Award and the North West Bravery Award.

Police said: “The actions of all three officers ultimately saved each other and meant no members of the public suffered any injuries.”

Brown had no connection to the original crash.

He can be seen on bodycam footage approaching the officers despite not being involved in the crash incident.

Dressed all in black with a hood tightly fastened, he is seen walking down the street near his home before jumping into the road to attack the officers from behind.

PS Foster was struck to the head several times as Brown aimed a knife at his neck.

Brown was armed with a blue-handled craft knife and later admitted attempted murder and three counts of wounding with intent.

He was sentenced in April 2024 to an indefinite hospital order.

Prior to sentencing and while in custody, Brown stabbed a staff member during an induction at HMP Liverpool.

The following month after that incident Brown attacked a prison guard and stabbed him in the neck with a sharp object.

But it is Sgt Ansell’s courage in the face of a brutal, unprovoked attack that has now been rightly recognised after he risked everything to protect his fellow officers.
