Comic Relief viewers appeared less than impressed when Catherine Tate resurrected her sketch characters during Friday’s annual charity telethon.

The comedian, 56, made her debut as one of this year’s hosts, opened the show as foul-mouthed Nan, before a school girl sketch as Lauren Cooper.

Catherine’s iconic characters, who appeared on her award winning sketch show from 2004–2007, were branded ‘excruciatingly unfunny’ in 2026.

First Nan performed an opening number to Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now with backing dancers also dressed as pensioners before wheeling in co-hosts Davina McCall and Joel Dommett in armchairs.

Next she was back as Lauren with her catchphrase ‘Am I Bovvered?’ while Davina took on the role of teacher.

Taking to X fans said: ‘Catherine Tate has surfaced as Nan again. Excruciatingly unfunny’: ‘I remember when you’d was actually funny, this one starts with Catherine Tate as nan and it is so bad’: ‘Jesus Christ @comicrelief @bbc get Catherine Tate off the show! She’s awful in that role!’.

This is not the first time Catherine has appeared in Comic Relief sketches, having previously resurrected them in 2007, alongside David Tennant, 2009, with Alan Carr and 2021 with Daniel Craig

Earlier in the day Greg James screamed with joy as he learned he has raised £2.8million for his Comic Relief bike challenge – just miles from the finish line in Edinburgh

The Radio 1 Breakfast DJ, 40, is cycling 1000km in eight days on a tandem bicycle, and has been surprised by family and friends along the way, including Prince William earlier this week.

Greg set off from Galashiels in the Scottish Borders on Friday morning for his final day of cycling and started the day with a total amount raised of £2.5million.

Just over an hour later, Greg took a break from cycling for a pit stop in North Middleton, Midlothian – just 16 miles from his final destination of Edinburgh.

During the pit stop, Greg spoke to radio host Matt Edmonson, who revealed the total money he has raised had jumped up to £2,823,694.

‘2.8 million!! YESSS!’ Greg screamed, before adding: ‘Wow. We’re really moving! It is stupid now. But that’s fun. Silly things are fun aren’t they?

‘Let’s keep doing this silly thing and let’s get it up to three. Do it for Arthur. Do it for Arthur and his big seat.’

At the beginning of the clip, Greg said: ‘I’ve asked for a silly total yo hand over to Comic Relief at the end of today. What are we on right now? Let’s go.’

‘Okay so when we last had a total it was £2.5million, which is crazy,’ Matt said.

Matt then added: ‘We’ve only been on air for an hour and eight minutes. So let’s find out what the new total is…’

Greg screamed with joy with joy at the total reveal of £2.8million before preparing to finish the route.
